MOSTLY NON STAMPIN' UP! MIXED MEDIA ART PIECE

HEY BLOGGIES,

I thought I would share with you some of the NON-Stampin' Up! hobbies I also have.  Besides my quilting, which you can see the quilts I made last year by clicking the QUILTS tab at the top of this blog, I also like many other crafting mediums.

I used to do wood pieces and sold them every year at the craft fairs.  I made checkerboards with fun pieces like frogs and turtles, I made wooden signs of all kinds, snowmen were my favorite and every one in my family have a snowman family with their names on them.  I even made fun mini nativity sets and sure wish I kept one for ME!!  Most of my things I was so tired of by the time I made so many that I just sold them until they were gone.  Unfortunately, with all the China imports, it is no longer cost effective to do my woodworking so I quit about 5 yrs ago.

However, I am into mixed media art and really enjoying trying new things.  My friend, Tammy, and I are working on some pieces to hang on the wall.  We are close to being finished with our OWL piece, but still have a few more things to add - some baubles and beads, twine, glitter, etc.  but I thought I would share with you so you could see some of the other things I enjoy doing:

This first photo is after we got the owl drawn, shaded, painted and cut out, then we added designer papers on the 4 x 4 coaster:

The drawing of the whimsey owl is done with fine point marker on Braithwaite paper.  It is double outlined everywhere so the lines show up well.  Then I used various shades of gray to shade the whole picture of owl and scarf, etc.  Then used markers to color him in, and sharpies too.

Then used paper snips (YIPPEE TO STAMPIN' UP! FOR THOSE!!) to cut out the owl and set him aside.  I used a pressed paper drink coaster that is 4 x 4 inches.  I covered it with three different papers in the woodlands theme.  I even found that TREES word on one of the papers and knew I had to use it here.  The eyebrows are separately cut out and glued onto the owl for dimension.  The rest of the dimension is from shading and highlighting.  That was the FUN part to do.

Here he is now with the fringe on his scarf.  Isn't he just a dandy looking guy ready for some winter fun??!!

He is attached with SU's STAMPIN DIMENSIONALS and I used GLUE DOTS for the snowflake button and TOMBOW GLUE for the yarn fringe.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my cute little OWL.  Stop back again and I will show him all finished with his hanger and his hanging beads, etc. that completed the piece.

Don't forget to leave me a comment to be entered into the BLOG CANDY/BIRTHDAY drawing.

See my previous post to know how to get more than one chance to win.  Today I am picking a winner!!
